So not only am I new to this stemming site, but also new to blogging!

So here goes. I’m a 4th year undergraduate student at UC Davis. I’m majoring in Biomedical Engineering and minoring in Fiber and Polymer Science.

I am an intern for the Women’s Resources and Research Center at UC Davis. My intern title is “WISE intern.” WISE stands for Women in Science and Engineering. We try to promote, encourage, and support women in the STEM fields. We host several events and programming services like a free math tutoring night, a graduate school prep panel, and a new mentor program between grad and undergrad students.

This Saturday, April 24th we are hosting an event on our campus called “STEM for Girls.” This is an outreach event for young girls in the 5th and 6th grades to get them interested in the STEM fields. They will experience the joy of snap circuits and take special tours in research labs with some opportunities for hands on projects and demonstrations to further their curiosity. We’re really excited! We also have several women student mentors through out the event to hopefully foster great relationship between them and the young girls. In fact, the reason why I’ve created this stemming account is so that the girls can continue to keep in touch with me if they want. We’ve asked all our volunteers to do the same! We’ll see how it goes! Welcome STEM for Girls 2010!
